Glamour magazine announced this past week their women of the year.
Many were given the award for things like creating job opportunities for women, raising millions for charities, standing up for women in face of controversy, fighting for equality, and being an absolute BOSSSSSS.
Then…there’s Caitlyn Jenner. Whom, without a doubt has started a conversation about equality and acceptance for transgender men and women.
I have nothing negative to say about what she is doing for this emerging community because TBH I just don’t understand it. I was born a heterosexual woman…so I think it would be actually quite ignorant and unfair of me to comment on something I’ve never struggled with.
As Christians/believers our job is to love. That I DO KNOW. It’s not to pass judgement. Because OUR creator made them just as He made you..in HIS image. He loves them just as much as he loves you.
What kinda chaps my a$$ though…
is that someone who’s been a “woman” less than 7 months can be honored for being a woman. Because the truth is…Caitlyn cannot tell me what it’s like to be a woman.
She can tell us all what it’s like to be a man. Or a father. Or an Olympic athlete. Or a reality television star. She can tell us what’s it’s like to be a transgender…which comes with it’s own experiences and problems that I would know nothing about.
But a woman???? NAH.
Caitlyn Jenner should speak for the trans community..BUT NOT FOR WOMEN.
The truth is..men and women are made differently. We have different chemical make-ups. We are treated differently socially…as the social norms are so different for both genders. A skirt, push-up bra, makeup, and shaved legs does not a woman make.
Being a woman has it’s perks. But also..some major downfalls.
For instance..periods…those suck.
Pregnancy. You know… when you have a parasite (a cute one of course) sucking the life out of you.
Childbirth… (I’ll know the feeling of this soon…CAN’T WAIT! *sarcasm*)
Dealing with other women (we are mean to each other sometimes. like really cruel)
What it’s like the week before your period when everything in your kitchen is fair game. And being a total **b-word** is acceptable because THERE’S JUST NOT ENOUGH CHOCOLATE OKAY?!
Women’s intuition. We are born with psychic powers…can’t explain them. Also we aren’t really supposed to talk about them….it’s kinda like fight club.
Also what it’s like to be happy, sad, mad, confused, worried, and excited all at the same time.
All jokes aside though, there’s a lot of things and experiences you’ll never get if you weren’t born a woman. Just like there’s things transgenders go through…many of us will never understand.
AND THAT’S OKAY.
Our differences don’t make us enemies. We can totally appreciate the differences.
It doesn’t make anyone better or worse. Just different.
So what do you guys think?
LMK in the comments! Please remember to be kind and respectful.
